IRREPRESSIBLE THIEVES

The follies of this dysfunctional Jonathan's government keep growing exponentially. The depth of the hole Nigeria has been plunged into keeps unraveling, so much so that the hole has metamorphosed into an abyss. The principle of good governance, which has never been in vogue with them, has been effectively proscribed. We can shout and holler all we like, this government is incurably impervious to reason and it is hell-bent, without a shadow of a doubt, to continue on this trajectory to perdition.
Much has been said about, and commented on, the security situation in the country. The acreage devoted to the legitimate concerns of the citizenry, and the inarticulacy of these irrepressible thieves in government, is unprecedented.
What has grated on my nerves now? I'm absolutely confident that 99.9999% of Nigerians are with me on this one. All good people know that good people don't need laws to act responsibly, but bad people will always find ways around the law to justify their irresponsible acts. Only this morning I was ashamed as, first and foremost, a Nigerian, and secondly, an ardent believer in the observance of the proprieties that officialdom demands, to read from the pages of the newspapers that Diezani Alison Maduekwe, the insufferable Petroleum Resources Minister, has obtained a court injunction against the House Of Representatives from launching a probe into her alleged misappropriation of N10 billion to maintain a chartered aircraft. How can one explain this most perplexing of I-don't-give-a-damn attitudes from a minister, and dopey Jonathan looks on? There's of course only one explanation: they are all at it; and as long as the courts can be manipulated, they will continue to get away with it and millions of Nigeria will continue to live in fear, misery and hunger. If she has nothing to hide, why resort to the courts for stay of proceedings by elected representatives of the people? What is even more depressing is that some obscure group that calls itself PDP Youths Volunteers have even gone on record to label the attempt to probe the massive fraud as a witch-hunting exercise. And these are the so-called youths that aspire to be in positions of power and influence in the future. Is it difficult then to imagine the kind of future that awaits Nigeria if these buffoonish scamming goofers ever get a sniff of power?
Isn't it appropriate to remind these kind of people of the sagacious words of  Earnest Hemingway (July 21 1899 - July 2 1961): "The first panacea for a mismanaged nation is inflation of the currency; the second is war. Both bring a temporary prosperity; both bring a permanent ruin. But both are the refuge of political and economic opportunists."? Nigeria is at war with itself. War on all fronts. War of want; war of religion; war of corruption; war of disease; war of kidnapping; and above all, war of ignorance. Yet, politicking goes on unabated. The race for Aso Rock in 2015 is now a do-or-die affair. All of them, bar none, have taken leave of their senses and living in a bubble that will, in earnest, burst. They plunder and murder and couldn't care less. Nigerians will take you all on, don't you worry about that. Oh, how I wish they could see!
