PEERLESS RISIBLE NONSENSE

Wonders will never cease in this land of ours. You may be wondering what gets my goat this time, and I can tell you without equivocation, quite a few things do; the most important of which is the fact that we seem to have quickened the pace of our retrogression. A catalogue of events that occurred in the past week are a sad confirmation of this regime's inane propensity for acts of self-destruction. Just to highlight a few, Uncle Joe 'braved' going to the states under the siege of Boko Haram and promptly referred to the insurgents as 'ghosts'. Two things come to mind here: Why was there the need for such an unprecedented level of security, effectively shutting down both states for his visit, if he was dealing with 'ghosts'? Has it occurred to him that Nigerians have long had the feeling of having a ghost in Aso Rock for over three years now? These two states had hitherto been deemed unsafe for him to visit, leaving the unfortunate citizens at the mercy of bloodthirsty murderers. What could be more ghostlike than wilfully abandoning his responsibilities and leaving defenceless citizens to their own devices? Isn't Uncle Joe not lending credence to the belief of  Publilius Syrus: "Honesta turpido est pro causa bona" (for a good cause, wrongdoing is virtuous)? Even though most Nigerians deem these insurgents warped in every sense of the word, but isn't there a smack of veracity in their claim of fighting a greater injustice of inequality, moral debasement and unchecked corruption? Rather than seek a lasting solution to this epidemic of violence, he's fanning the embers of discord and blood-letting even more strongly by making such uncouth and infantile pronouncements. However, I wonder why we should be surprised that such peerless risible nonsense came out of the mouth of this twerp in a twit.
How about this then? Granting amnesty to Diya, Yar'Adua Snr., Adisa, Fadipe and others is a red herring. Who in their right senses wouldn't know that Alamieyeseigha was the main target of that gesture? He claimed that Alamieyeseigha had suffered enough for the crimes he committed against his own people. A man who stole billions of State funds, rendering millions penniless, jobless, hopeless and many dead through acts of insane avarice. What thought does he have for those millions whose lives have been blighted by such an unimaginable level of greed? What signal is he sending to Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora, and the wider world, regarding the fight against corruption? Oh, lest we forget that Uncle Joe was Alamieyeseigha's Deputy Governor, so it's payback time. What about those languishing in penitentiaries and police cells up and down the land for low-level crimes, and have not even been tried in courts of law? The contemnible doltish lackey, Doyin Okupe, even spewed his customary incomprehensible waffle in defence of the amnesty. Such peerless risible nonsense!
On another front, the House Of Representatives is now trying to pass a Bill giving its members immunity from any sort prosecution. Of all issues confronting the country, this is the most pressing for them. Who on earth do these rogues in robes think they are? They are effectively saying to the rest of us that while they remain in that House, they are more equal than us, they are above the laws of the land. So should they be accused of committing murder or any other infractions of the law, justice will have to be delayed. It hasn't occurred to these muppets that justice delayed is justice denied. What peerless risible nonsense! They keep fighting their corner and lining their pockets with blood money instead of tasking the Executive and fighting tooth and nail for the welfare and wellbeing of Nigerians. If they want Nigerians and, to a lesser extent, the wider world to take them seriously, they should buckle up and realise that such incongruous behaviour does not have a place in our democracy. Representing your people should no longer be seen as a way to ingratiate yourself with the powers-that-be and making yourself stupidly rich in the process. Public service does not translate to an à la carte plundering of our commonwealth.
Enough said. As they say, brevity is the soul of wit.
