THE PRESIDENT WITH NO PRECEDENT

Since the march towards 2015 is unarguably in earnest, one may reasonably assume the closure of government business (as if there was ever any apart from gobbling up the wealth of Nigerians) All efforts are now directed towards their struggle to elongate their disastrous stay in office, and the inevitable wolfing down of even more hundreds of billions of dollars. Didn't Tukur make it known that he had the presidency's mandate to win 32 states in 2015? Didn't Anenih allude to the fact that PDP know how to do it? Aren't we beginning to see how the whole campaign is going to pan out, by trying to stifle the press? What about the arrest of Leadership journalists or the sanctioning by way of fines imposed on a radio station. Aren't these symptomatic of a desperate and despotic regime intent on silencing all opposition to it? All of these stoutly supported by the shameless Reuben Abati and the wholly deplorable Doyin Okupe. As for the former, a hitherto respectable journalist and commentator to have sold his soul, (lock, stock and barrel), shows how low some people are prepared to stoop to unscrupulously enlarge their wallets and their circle of influence. As for the latter, well, he's well renowned for his treachery and substandard intelligence. These two are proving to be quite worthy cannon fodders to a president with no precedent. I don't know of anyone else, but for me, in all my years, I have never heard of, nor lived through, a political regime that so recklessly reduced Nigeria to a laughing stock as this one has done. I have never known a human being (I'd not be so discourteous to call Uncle Joe another thing, even though I have my doubts!) that was elected into a position of authority and responsibility who irresponsibly lost authority, and cowardly lost all sense of responsibility. Uncle Joe has proved himself to be a trailblazer in the art of mismanagement of resources and the science of irresponsible use of power. See? He is the president without precedent. The stock of Nigeria has never been this low, even during the dark ages of oppressive military regimes.
What is there not to worry about now? Unmitigated corruption, wanton destruction of lives and property, terrorism, infrastructural decay, I-don't-give-a-damn- attitude of those in authority, the ogas-at-the-top who have no clue as to what their responsibilities are, foreign embassies largely populated by lackeys. The list is endless. If I didn't know any better I would have said Nigerians are the most resilient people in the world. Let the truth be told, it isn't our resilience that gives these rogues the courage to carry on as they are, but our timidity is what fuels their insatiable hunger for power and riches at our expense. Labour unions are now largely docile; students' unions are busy fraternising with the looting elite; religious leaders are in cahoots with the light-fingered. No moral compass. The only aspiration considered acceptable now is to line one's pocket with as much as possible for as long as possible without 'giving a damn'. Where is the change coming from when the prevailing climate is one of 'normality'? If Nigeria was wonky before Jonathan, it is now unquestionably prostrate and gasping for breath. Who shall breathe life into it and take it out of the intensive care that this lot have shoved it into? Is there any hope? Will Nigeria's phoenix rise from its ashes.
I believe it will but not until these destroyers have been put to the electoral sword so that we may begin to separate the wheat from the chaff, and slowly rebuild our severely battered reputation and bruised economy. However, they are desperate to hang on. To win over them, our desperation must supersede theirs.
Can we overcome? Oh, yes we can.
