FALSE PREMISES, FALSER PROMISES

I pray you do not fall in love with me,
For I am falser than vows made in wine.
                                             Besides, I like you not
(Rosalind in "As You Like It" Act 3 Sc. 5, William Shakespeare)

It, indeed, is a wonder why a large section of my fellow Nigerians could have been so gullible in our ready acceptance of the promises made by these latest troupe of what I may refer to as 'soliticians' (soulless politicians). I'm not proud to rank myself among this gullible brigade, but I have resolved to lick my wound and vowed never to be so royally taken in again by a fellow mortal, no matter how seemingly sincere they are.
For us to have believed, even in the slightest, that this brigandage is anything better than what existed before smacks of carelessness, to say the least. For us to have any iota of belief that these ninnyhammers and tyrannical skunks had our best interests at heart was decidedly foolhardy. This pointed act of folly on our part brought to my reminiscence the above-quoted narrative by Shakespeare. It is clear as mud that these twerps do not like us one bit, and their contempt for our welfare and wellbeing is robustly demonstrated every passing second.
This brings us full-circle; fighting corruption in all its variants and strands is the overriding imperative for our nation. Nothing matters more. No developmental planning has any relevance without this scourge being extirpated. Why should they get away with looting us dry, while common thieves get sent down for eternity and are forgotten in our prisons up and down the country? Why should a guy nick a bunch of apples in the market and go to jail for an indeterminate period of time, while these dingoes get away with pilfering billions of dollars?
Let's pull together and hound them relentlessly wherever they may be; we have the right, morally and legitimately, to demand an explanation on how they acquired their 'riches'. Why should these pharisees be allowed to roam free and in obscene opulence while tens of millions of Nigerians they have impoverished by their inordinate greed continue to starve and be jobless? They should be hung out to dry and made to answer for every single act of their insensitivity and recklessness.
For all these to happen, we need political and moral leadership; political and moral courage. Do we presently possess these? Absolutely NOT. No cohesion, no comprehension, no discernible will. We must begin to earnestly refuse those false premises upon which they base their falser promises. We need redress, most urgently.
