THE BIG CON

It isn't often that I make direct references to people but recent events, and the emerging trend, have forced my hand. I will not even beat about the bush, and as irreverent as it may appear, I have had it with this President. He is either one of the biggest cons of all time or the most rudderless and dare I say, clueless, President in the history of this country.
Why this acerbity in my tone? Simple answer is I love my country and its people dearly. My country and its people have been left defenceless for far too long. Defenceless against internal threats, mindless bombings, armed robberies, extra-judicial killings, political assassinations and financial misappropriations. This President appears intellectually neutered, and his political ineptness is imperilling the country.
If this were a President with vision and purpose, the security situation of the nation would have been vastly improved by now. How much longer does he need? He keeps giving us meaningless speeches and empty promises of better things to come during his tenure. How this man expects the economy to improve and people to feel secure in the prevailing circumstances is beyond any rational understanding. He is a complete joke and Nigerians aren't even laughing!
Jonathan Goodluck is out of his depth; he's run out of ideas (if he ever had any) and he's playing poker with the citizens' lives. Jos's situation remains intractable; Boko Haram killing and bombing with absolute and contemptuous ease; armed robbers dictating the agenda; Niger Delta remains a hotbed for violence; politicians and bankers in cahoots, thieving our money everyday. Jonathan just sits there, welcoming and feting foreign dignitaries and receiving visitors (from Obas to Chiefs to herbalists, for Pete's sake!) on complimentary visits to Aso Rock almost every day.
In any other credible government, all the so-called Security chiefs would have been sacked and replaced without delay. This lot cannot deal with the security problems we face as a nation and people. We live in perpetual fear of our lives and property. The first function of any government is to ensure maximum security of its people. Jonathan has failed woefully on this count and his position is becoming increasingly untenable by the day. What's the point in promising us a better tomorrow if you cannot offer us adequate security today?
You asked us for our votes and we obliged in our millions. To prove to us that you, Jonathan Goodluck, are not a big con, dismantle the useless extant security apparatus and show your boldness and sincerity by improving this dire situation. Then, and only then, may we even begin to think that you are indeed what you claimed you were. The onus is on you, Jonathan. Deal with it. Period.
