UNCULTURED CULTURE & IMMORAL MORES

There's a particular aspect in our polity that continually defies any logic; how much respect or adulation  we Nigerians heap on the conspicuously undesirables in our midst. Why is our culture so uncultured and our mores decidedly immoral? Why do I ask this question? Well, come with me.

It is the eighth wonder of the world how our inherent respect of 'elders' has been manifestly mistaken by those 'elders' as fear. This confusion of terms has permeated our politics for as long as anyone can remember. A manifestation of this infestation is the manner in which we are usually circumspect in our criticisms of these unworthy persons, for whom the term elder is an absolute misnomer. The congenital simianity that defines their politics has deprived them of their humanity, relegated them from the gutter to the sewer and catapulted them into abject insignificance.

Respect begets respect. What respect have these bloodhounds ever given to Nigerians? Oh, lest I forget! They have looted our commonwealth with respect; they have carried out political assassinations and kidnappings with respect; they have respectfully rendered the country almost inhabitable with ubiquitous armed robberies and countless lawless pursuits. To be honest, I am paralytic with anger that these skunks are just refusing to go away and leave us to lick our wounds and begin to reshape our world. Each time they open their foul mouths and mention 'the dividends of democracy' I'm in a rage. The uncouthness of their manner and comport is only matched by the emptiness that exists between their ears. Unworthy of consideration and undeserving of respect.

Why have they arrogated themselves the right to decide and shape our future when the ashes of our past and present are in their sweaty palms? Well, I have news for them. They may have been untouchable for decades and may think they'll get away with all they've thieved for ever; they'll do well to remember the sword of Damocles. They are living in perilous times, and on borrowed time.

We need to, therefore, redefine our culture and rethink our mores. The time to start shouting has COME. The time to show unmistakable irreverence to these marauding schleps is NOW. Give respect to those it is due and pour scorn on those that deserve it. Despite these incorrigibles, and in spite of them, this country will be great once again and regain its rightful place in the comity of nations.
